HENRY REPEATING RIFLE

Henry Repeating Rifle

Description (Stock Code: WRR-02)

This is a replica of the infamous Henry rifle which is just over 43" in length finished in brass and black.  This is a full size replica with working action.  Click the rifle to see a detailed picture of this wonderful civil war replica rifle.  This rifle is also available in an antique gunmetal finish.

Brief History

It was Mr. Henry who conceived the first practical, lever action repeating rifle. Patented in 1860, the Henry gave a single man the firepower of a dozen marksmen armed with muzzle-loading muskets. The Henry rifle was the immediate forerunner of the famous Winchester rifles. About 14,000 Henry’s were made between 1860 and 1866 by the New Haven Arms Company. The Henry rifle was developed from the Volcanic firearms system and was built around the .44 rimfire cartridge. Both the new rifle and the cartridge were designed by B. Tyler Henry. A basic feature of the .44 rimfire cartridge was the use of a metallic casing, rather than the undependable, self-contained powder, ball, and primer of the Volcanic bullet. Loading continued to be from the muzzle end of the magazine. Although a revolutionary weapon in Civil War service, it was made in relative limited quantities. Quite a few company-size Union organizations, especially those from Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri, carried Henry rifles, purchased at their own expense.

WINCHESTER REPEATING RIFLE

Winchester Repeating Rifle

Description (Stock Code: WRR-03)

The original mass produced Winchester faithfully reproduced with aged "antique gunmetal" action and barrel/magazine. You can almost see the Indians coming over the hill when you put this butt to your shoulder and slowly lower the underlever as you take aim. Length 39" overall, Barrel 19". This is a full size replica with working action.  Also available in brass and black finish called the "Yellow Boy" and is the same size as above, again with full working action.  Click the rifle to see a detailed picture of this wonderful Winchester replica rifle.

Brief History

The original Winchester rifle was famous for its rugged construction and lever-action breech mechanism that allowed the rifleman to fire a number of shots before having to reload: hence the term, "repeating rifle."

The first model, the Model 1866, was nicknamed Yellow Boy because of its brass receiver. This model is sometimes referred to as The Gun That Won The West, but the Model 1873 sometimes goes by this nickname as well.

The guns were available in many calibers, most of which were also available in Colt, Remington and other revolvers. This allowed the owner to carry two firearms, both using the same ammunition.

DECORATIVE WINCHESTER REPEATING RIFLE

Decorative Winchester Repeating Rifle

Description (Stock Code: WRR-04)

The 1892 Winchester rifle, descendant of the Henry and 1866 "Yellow Boy" rifles, were made from 1892 until 1941 and total production was in excess of one million pieces. Many variations and calibers were introduced over the course of the 50 years production, but the basic design was largely unaltered and the fact that many are still in use today as hunting rifles bears testimony to the reliability and longevity of the gun. This non-firing replica clearly demonstrates the workings of the famed lever action with a beautifully decorated wooden stock.

SHARPS CARBINE RIFLE

Sharps Carbine .52 Caliber Rifle Sharps Carbine .52 Caliber Rifle {Hammer} Sharps Carbine .52 Caliber Rifle {Cocked}

Description (Stock Code: WRR-06)

This replica 1859 Sharps carbine was a widely used Civil War firearm. The .52 caliber, single shot breech loader was so popular it was still used in the Indian wars even though more modern guns were available. This wall hanger features a 2 band wood stock, saddle ring and working action.  Engraved on the side of the rifle is "R.S. Lawrence PAT. April 12th 1859" and "C. Sharps PAT OCT 5th 1852".  This full size 37 1/2" all metal replica has a polished wood stock with working action.  Click the rifle to see a detailed picture of this wonderful civil war replica rifle.

Brief History

Christian Sharps got his start in the gun making business by working at the Harpers Ferry Arsenal.  The first Sharps firearm was patented in 1848, and by 1850, the first models of Sharps Sporting Rifles were being made in Mill Creek, Pennsylvania by the firm of A. S. Nippes.  In 1851, a new breechloader was being made in Windsor, Vermont by the firm of Robbins & Lawrence.  Rifle production continued in Vermont while a new Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company was formed in Hartford, Connecticut.  In 1855, manufacturing was moved to Hartford and continued until 1876.  Operations were then moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut until 1880.  Although the Sharps Rifle Manufacturing Company bore his name, Christian Sharps was not the principal owner.  In 1854 he began his own C. Sharps & Company to make his own handguns.  He formed a partnership with William Hankins in 1862.  Sharps & Hankins manufactured four-barrel pepperboxes and single-shot breech loading rifles and carbines.  That partnership ended in 1866.  Christian C. Sharps & Company ceased operations with Sharps' death in 1874.

This Breech loading, .52 caliber weapon, the cavalry carbine was shorter and lighter than it's infantry counterpart.  Approximately 115,000 of these carbines were made during the Civil War, and they were very popular with the troopers because of their reliability and resistance to fouling and jamming.

Kentucky Flintlock Rifle

Kentucky Flintlock Rifle

Description (Stock Code: WRR-07)

This faithful representation of the beautiful Kentucky Flintlock Rifle shows the graceful lines for which the Kentucky became renowned for.  These rifles have an engraved brass effect patchbox and fittings and a wooden stock.  This is a wonderful replica wall hanger with working action.

Brief History

The name "Kentucky Rifle" is largely a misnomer, as they were primarily made in Pennsylvania, although Maryland and Virginia gunsmiths contributed a fair share.  The "Kentucky" name came about as a result of the Battle of New Orleans, which was substantially won by these rifles, in the hands of two thousand frontiersmen from Kentucky.  While the design was influenced by the German Jaeger rifles and the slender English and French fowling pieces of the early 18th Century, the Kentucky is uniquely American.
