Smith & Wesson Schofield DescriptionThis Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver is a great replica of the gun manufactured from 1875-1878. This non-firing replica has the original's "single action" and "top break" loading mechanism, featuring wooden handles and working action in a brass & black finish. Most of the revolvers from Smith & Wesson were produced in a blued finish (as above), but a number were made in a nickel finish. HistorySmith & Wesson took a step closer to perfecting firearms with this 1869 “First Model American” Army revolver. The revolver took its name from Major George W. Schofield of the 10th Cavalry. It had a hinged frame that opened to reveal the end of the cylinder and an automatic ejection system for faster reloading of the newly developed metallic cartridges. The gun has a great association with the "Cowboy" era of the American West. As a "top-break" revolver, the 1875 Schofield could be loaded much faster than other side arms of the day and was a popular choice. Unfortunately the movies ignore this gun and made the "peacemaker" famous instead, but was made infamous as the gun that killed Jessie James. Pricing
